Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Wednesday received the document of Iraq's fulfillment of its obligations to destroy chemical weapons waste.
"Abbadi presided over the extended meeting with the advanced owners of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the heads of state and private universities and a number of teachers," a statement from the office said.
The statement added that "Abadi received from the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research document the fulfillment of Iraq's full obligations to destroy the remnants of chemical weapons."
"This victory is the outcome of the steadfastness of the fighters, the sacrifices of the martyrs and the result of the steadfastness of every Iraqi in his work," Abadi said, adding that "our people are now harvesting the fruits of their sacrifices by the great victory achieved by brave fighters and the unity of the country.
He added that "while maintaining the independence of universities and be effective in society and away from politicization or exploitation of political and electoral platforms," warning of "the transformation of universities to gain financial at the expense of gender and scientific honesty and the need of society."
