The Supreme Council of Iranian Free Trade Zones and the Federation of Exporters and Importers of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq signed a memorandum to develop bilateral cooperation.
The signing ceremony was attended by Akhtar Aftakhari, assistant director of production, export and technical affairs of the secretariat of the Supreme Council for Trade Zones and Mustafa Abdulrahman, president of the Union of Exporters and Importers in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
At the ceremony, Eftakhari said free trade zones in Iran had about 1,000 industrial production units, while special economic zone exports amounted to about 20 billion dollars a year.
He considered that the memorandum signed represents a bridge for the export of goods through the Kurdistan region to other countries, and to provide the requirements of traders and producers of the two countries.
For his part, Sheikh Mustafa Abdul Rahman, head of the Union of Exporters and Importers in the Kurdistan region, said that Iraq has 7 memorandums of cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran, adding this new memorandum.
He pointed to the US embargo against Iran, stressing the readiness of the region to strengthen cooperation in order to secure basic commodities.
