The governor of Kermanshah, west of Iran, Hoshink Basund, announced on Thursday, opening the port (Sheikh link) border with the Kurdistan region of Iraq, to resume business activity starting Thursday.
"After negotiations with the Kurdistan region of Iraq and the central government, the reopening of Shaikh Salqa's port was approved," said Basund, according to Fars news agency. "On Thursday, several Iranian trucks loaded with goods crossed the port."
He added that "efforts continue to open the other closed ports, namely (Shoshmi Baoh) and (Tilah Koh Sarbel one day)," noting that "1000 trucks loaded with goods crossing daily from the port (Parvizhan) and 350 trucks from the port (Khosravi) and 450 trucks from (Sommar) to Iraq. "
It is noteworthy that the central government took the decision to close the port after the referendum on secession in the Kurdistan region, on 25 September 2017. "
