RIYADH - Iraq has increased its holdings of US debt instruments by 59.6 percent in January of 2019.
Iraq's ownership of US bonds, according to recent Treasury data, was $ 34 billion ($ 40.38 trillion), compared to $ 21.3 billion ($ 25.29 trillion) in January of 2018.

On a monthly basis, Iraq's holdings of US Treasuries fell by 1.7% compared to December of 2018, at $ 34.6 billion (JD41.09 trillion).
Iraq ranked fourth in the list of holders of US debt instruments at the level of Arab countries. Saudi Arabia ranked first with $ 162.6 billion (193.09 trillion dinars), followed by the UAE with 56 billion dollars (66.5 trillion dinars) and Kuwait with 40.7 billion dollars (48.33 trillion dinars).
China topped the list of US debtors with $ 1126.6 billion, followed by Japan with $ 1069.8 billion.
During December , Iraq continued to raise its holdings of US debt instruments to record highs in 2018.
Iraq's ownership of US bonds jumped 67.1 per cent year-on-year to $ 34.6 billion ($ 41.364 trillion), the highest level in 2018, compared with $ 20.7 billion ($ 24.747) in the corresponding month of 2017.
