Speaker of the House of Representatives Salim al-Jubouri on Wednesday discussed with President Bush's envoy for international coalition affairs Brett McCurk and his accompanying delegation the most prominent political and security developments in Iraq and the region.
"The two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and international efforts in the fight against terrorism," the statement said. The meeting also discussed the elections and the file of the reconstruction of the areas affected by the practices of the terrorist organization.
Al-Jubouri stressed that "Iraq is ahead of an important stage that requires the mobilization of efforts in order to achieve the electoral benefits successfully and transparently, by providing all the requirements that allow the participation of all Iraqis without exception."
"The other challenge we face is the reconstruction of the areas affected by terrorism that call for regional and international support for the rehabilitation of our liberated cities to ensure a speedy and safe return to our displaced families who have been subjected to extreme conditions over the past period."
Jabouri called on the United States and the international community to contribute to the donors' conference for the reconstruction of Iraq, which will be held soon in Kuwait, praising at the same time the US position supporting Iraq and at all levels.
For his part, McCork said "the support of his government to Iraq in its war against terrorism, and stressed the need to maintain coordination between the two countries, especially with regard to security and economic files."
