ERBIL - Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) are expect to meet again and discuss the practical steps towards addressing the issues in Kirkuk.
Diyar Hussein, a member of KDP leadership council, told BasNews that the meeting will take place in the next few days.
He noted that the two major parties are expected to form a joint committee which responsibility will be negotiating the normalization process of Kirkuk with other factions in the province.
"The committee will seek an agreement with other components of Kirkuk on the appointment of a new governor, the reduction of provincial council's meeting, and the process of removing Shi'ite militias of Hashd al-Shaabi from central Kirkuk," Hussein explained.
Kirkuk was overran by the Iraqi army and pro-Iranian militias in October 2017 when Peshmerga forces were pushed out and the Kurdish governor was ousted.
Since then, the disputed province is experiencing multiple political and administrative crisis with a challenged security. KDP and PUK said earlier this month that they have reached an agreement to appoint Tayib Jabar as the governor of Kirkuk after negotiations with Arab and Turkmen factions conclude.www.basnews.com/index.php/en/news/kurdistan/534137
