
Kuwait summoned the Iranian charge d'affaires to protest against Tehran's bid to develop an oil field in the Gulf subject of a dispute between the two countries, according to Wednesday reported Kuwait News Agency.
The move to Kuwait, according to the agency, following a decision of the National Iranian Oil Company, suggests that investors develop the area "near the oil-Dura" Kuwaiti natural gas field. The agency added that the Iranian diplomat delivered a letter of protest from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It quoted a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry as saying that Kuwait "will take all necessary actions to preserve the rights of the State of Kuwait in the framework of the fixed keenness to strengthen its relations at regional and international levels and in accordance with the rules of international law".
He stressed the need not to change the situation is in fact the oil field "in the territorial waters of Kuwait."
Dorra field is located in the overlapping maritime area that have not been demarcated between Kuwait and Iran.
