BIL - The Middle East Tourism Expo was opened on Sunday in Erbil with the attendance of dozens of local and international companies.
The fair was opened at 10:00 am where Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Minister Nechirvan Barzani gave a speech and said that the region has the potential to invest and achieve national revenue from the tourism sector.
"With developing sectors of tourism, agriculture, and industry, Kurdistan Region will be able to rely less on the energy sector," he said.
A total of 250 local and international companies from 20 different countries were present at the exhibition, ten of which from Arab states, six were from Europe with the rest being from the countries of Iran, Turkey, Philippines.
The fair, which will last for four days, comes only a few days before the Kurdish New Year's Eve, better known as (Nawroz), falling on 21st March, during which, thousands of tourists from other Iraqi provinces as well as the Iranian Kurdistan and other neighboring countries visit the region.
