The General Assembly of the Union of Arab Banks held its 46th meeting in Beirut on Wednesday, with 167 of its 379 members representing all members of the union.
The General Assembly began discussing the agenda of its new session, which is full of topics, including the selection of a president and vice president for 2019, and the decisions of the General Assembly at its previous meeting and the report of the Secretary General on the activities of the Union during the period between the previous and current sessions of the General Assembly.
At the beginning of the session, a representative of the banks of Lebanon was elected to chair the General Assembly. General Wissam Fattouh followed the report of the activities of the Union, which dealt with the achievements of the Union during the past year and the current situation, including the financial situation of the Union.
In particular, he mentioned the Federation's activities in the field of training, studies, research and activities carried out by the Federation during 2018, which included 79 activities including 21 Arab capitals, including Baghdad, pointing out that 371 banking institutions benefited or participated in these activities, which included good governance in Arab banks, cybersecurity and combating Money laundering and financial inclusion initiatives.
Fattouh also reviewed the agreements concluded by the Federation with the counterpart organizations and associations in the world, which deal with banking activities in general and training in particular.
This is attended by a delegation representing the Association of Iraqi Private Banks, headed by the Executive Director of the Association Ali Tariq.
