A spokeswoman for the US State Department, Heather Noiret, confirmed her country's support for the demonstrations that took place in a number of central and southern governorates of Iraq, in protest against the deterioration of services.
"We support the right of citizens to come out peacefully and demand their rights, and we understand very well that the continued deterioration of the electricity service, and the reduction of the proportion of fuel may lead to the anger of citizens," Nuerte said in a letter to the Iraqi government.
"The Iraqi government has pledged to preserve the rights of citizens who go out in these demonstrations, in addition to their right to preserve public and private property, and has indicated their willingness to solve their problems, the lack of providing them with electricity and improve the economic situation."
"Our relationship is very good with the Iraqi government, and our contacts continue with the regions facing unrest, especially in areas where we have diplomatic missions," she said.
