Baghdad Governor Falah al-Jazairi on Saturday announced a $29 million budget for the construction of an industrial city he described as "big", east of the Iraqi capital.
"The project of the Industrial City of Baghdad in Nahrawan district (35 km east of Baghdad) has been approved, where it has allocated 2,000 dunums within the municipal boundaries of the judiciary, after the city's urban planning and design has been completed," al-Jazairi said in a press release.
"This project aims to revive the Riverwan and create jobs for more than 50,000 Baghdadi citizens," he said.
"The industrial city includes all industrial, residential and economic activities," the governor said, adding that "the time limit for the completion of the project is 7 years, and will cost about $29 million."
"Baghdad province is determined to relocate uncontaminated industrial areas to other areas in order to contain the unemployment crisis and the slums that plague the capital," he said.
