The governor of Baghdad, Falah al-Jazairi, signed a joint memorandum of understanding with the French companies Al-Sattom and Hyundai of Korea to implement the suspended Baghdad train project in the presence of the French and Korean ambassadors.
"The signing of the memorandum of understanding will give a different picture that reflects the province's interest in the advisory aspects and renegotiation with the two companies from the technical, commercial and banking side," he said in a statement after the signing of the memorandum with the delegations of the two companies. "The local Baghdad government is keen to complete this outstanding train project being included in the government program."
He added that "the local government and the Ministry of Transport with the Secretariat of the capital are the responsible and sponsor of this project because the province is the beneficiary that allocated funds to complete the project," pointing to "the importance of the project for the province of Baghdad as it will achieve a qualitative leap in the transport area for the people of the capital."
"The implementation of the suspended railway project will be in several stages, including the first phase more than 21 km, and a starting point from the global station towards the sides of Karkh and Rusafa, with 14 stations."
He called on the governor of Baghdad, the international investment companies in all fields of "to be in Iraq in general and the province of Baghdad in particular and investment security stability, which is a message of reassurance for all."
He stressed that "the technical team of the province is continuing with other bodies represented by the Ministry of Transport and Planning and Finance and Secretariat, in order to expedite and direct this project and not to disable it."
At the end of his speech, the governor of Baghdad called on the Ministry of Finance and the ministries to support "to deal seriously with the project of the train suspended because it is of great importance by the local government of Baghdad."
